Question

Did we have anyone involved in the Awards this year?

Answer

A BIG congratulations to our very own former committee member Pam Casey who was awarded the
SALSC Services to Sport 2007 Award.
This award recognises the hard work and effort that is put in behind the scenes when it comes to ensuring and maintaining the quality and availability of sports provisions for the young people of the area.

Fiona Archibald (Larkhall Academy) was a nominee in the Junior Female Section and due to her participation in the ICG tournament was also nominated for the Junior Team of the Year award.

Keith Turnbull (now assisting the LASBA Coaches) was also nominated this year for the Senior Male Award and picked up the 3rd Place Award.

Question

What happened at the 2008 HSC Junior Round Robin Tournament?

Answer

The annual Hamilton Sports Council Junior Round Robin Badminton Championships were held on Sunday 21st January 2008 at Larkhall Leisure Centre from 9.30am to 6.00pm.
This year, we tried to give the event a singular identity by making a pun of the round robin format and give the competition a bird theme. Every participant was given a RSPB robin pin and the U11s were given a robin or blue tit bird fob.
The entry numbers were up on last year with 40 entries compared to 31


Tournament format
The competition was played in pools followed by a knock-out for semi-finals and finals. Where there was just one pool, the winner was decided on games won or points difference if there was a draw.
The U15 boys’ doubles was very closely fought with three boys each winning four out of their five games. The final placing was decided on points difference (points won minus points lost) and only 5 points divided them.

The winners were:
U11 girls’ singles: Taylor Brown (r-u Danielle Graham)
U11 girls’ doubles: Taylor Brown and Sophie Simm (r-u Danielle Graham and Stacey Walker)
U11 boys’ singles: Andrew Thomson (r-u Alex Dunn)
U11 boys’ doubles: Jamie Casey and Alex Dunn (r-u Darren McKillop and Cailean Donald MacIver)
U15 girls’ singles: Elise Printer (r-u Mhairi Thomson)
U15 girls’ doubles: Elise Printer and Mhairi Thomson (r-u Emily Gallen and Deborah Hendry)
U15 boys’ singles: Christopher Smith (r-u Liam Kelly)
U15 boys’ doubles: Christopher Smith and Liam Kelly (r-u 2nd Cameron King and Robert Dunn, 3rd Ewan Skehan and Ewan Galloway)
U18 boys’ singles: Greg McColl (r-u Euan Murray) Both of these boys won 4 games of 5, but Greg McColl won more points and lost fewer overall.
U18 boys’ doubles: Euan Murray and Greg McColl (r-u Matthew Darling and Declan Gallacher) Played a straight final of three games.

 What is the latest news from the Committee?

Answer

We have had a promotion night at Stewartfield community centre east kilbride on the 17th January 2008.  It went very well with over 30 children turning up.  We also had Jamie Neill, Keith Turnbull, Fiona Archibald and Kirsty Glimour giving a demonstration match
